Gideon and Madel Beukes

South Africa
Gideon and Madel Beukes have lived in Africa as missionaries for 27 years. The first decade was in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. While living in a traditional village, both of them were teachers at a local school and Gideon was also the pastor of a Sesotho-speaking congregation. One of the objectives was to reach the Basotho shepherds (Badisana) with the gospel.

After further theological studies, the family moved to Cape Town in 2004. Gideon is a faculty member at the Bible Institute of South Africa (BISA), and has served as the school’s vice principal since 2014. Madel is a great support in their goal to disciple students for God’s glory in full-time ministry. As a family they are actively involved in planting a local church.

Contact Gideon at GideonMadel@gmail.com for more information.

Pray for …

  • That we will be fruitful in the true knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:8)
  • For training program at Bible Institute of South Africa (BISA) to remain God-centered, Christ-exalting and Bible-saturated.
  • That God will use the training to enlighten hearts, renew minds and equip students for godly service in Africa.
  • Wisdom for Gideon in his role as Vice President of BISA.
  • Gideon as he preaches at a church plant in Scarborough. Most in the town call themselves atheist, agnostic or Buddhist.
  • Madel as she meets with, counsels and evangelizes women on a weekly basis.
  • For us as we fill the role of Student Dean – an opportunity to disciple students.
  • “Understanding Islam,” a course for which Gideon is responsible, has prepared many for their ministries among Muslims in Africa and beyond. Pray for these workers.
  • Please pray for us as a family to live out Matthew 22:37 – 39 ESV, “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a sceond is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Boris and Natasha*

Four Children

East Africa
This Muslim-majority region has been plagued by internal conflict and war, resulting in the deaths of thousands and displacement of nearly all the rest. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only solution to bring peace. Although the Bible is available in most of the local languages, few are circulated throughout the territory. Our desire is to see self-multiplying bodies of believers who study and obey the Word together and seek to bring healing to the area. In addition to drinking way too much coffee and tea with locals, we also run a school, develop small local businesses and  oversee teams in the region which provide opportunities to sow seeds broadly and find the good soil. Pray for Vision 15:2025, for God to equip and send 15 teams to our region by 2025.

Contact Danella at DanellaH@christchapelbc.org for more information.

*Names have been changed for protection.

Pray for …

  • For our hearts to grow closer to the Lord in daily ups and downs.
  • That we are faithful in our tasks, remaining encouraged and patient with the outcomes.
  • That we eagerly serve and share as a family, and that we would be a light.
  • That our marriage would remain united, and that all our communication would be grace-filled and productive.
  • That we would make a difference for Christ in close relationships we have with non-Christians in our community.
  • There is a local body of believers that is learning what it means to be in Christ. Pray against old vendettas and group identities among new Christians.
  • There is often potential violence between ethnic groups or religious tensions. Pray for peace and stability in the region.

Contact them at Scott.Mathews@cru.org or Jennifer.Mathews@cru.org for more information.

Prayer Requests

_____

  • First and foremost please pray that we don’t confuse “serving God” with “being with God.” There is a real temptation to mistake our work in ministry with our relationship with the Lord. We want our ministry to flow from our relationship with God and not the other way around.
  • We work with a variety of teams serving in different cultures. Please pray for discernment and understanding as we serve them and help them connect students to Christ. We also ask that you pray for the teams we work with that are short-staffed. This creates a lot of stress for them and a temptation to lose hope in the future of what God is doing in their country.
  • Continue to pray for our family as we travel often. We want to make sure that we stay relationally-close and responsive to the needs in our family and keep those as a priority.
  • Pray also for the student leaders who are taking significant steps of faith with their families and friends to make Christ known. Pray for their safety and the fruit of their ministry.

Marlen and Aselia

Three Children

United Kingdom

As teenagers they witnessed its fall in the early 1990’s, followed almost immediately by a momentous influx of Christian churches and organizations. Marlen is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary (MACM/MABS). In 2016, they responded to another call of mission service through Pioneers (www.pioneers.org) in response to the global refugee crisis and moved to Great Britain to minister among the Muslim refugees who are pouring into Europe. David and Jana Showalter

Children: Lucas

Northern Italy
David’s ministry is focused on teaching, preaching, discipling and evangelism. David teaches and preaches in both the Italian and international church plants, meets with contacts, teaches English as a volunteer in the local high school, disciples men and takes care of the finances/administration for both churches.  Jana’s ministry is first and foremost in the home with Lucas, Sofia and Jack. However, she also coordinates Sunday school in both churches and teaches English as a volunteer at Lucas’ preschool. Both David and Jana are focused on relational evangelism with the Italians in their community as a first step to point the lost towards Christ. Nearly 99 percent of modern Italians are lost without a personal relationship with Jesus. Many Italians are religious, but few know Jesus personally.

Contact David at David.Showalter@crossworld.org or Jana at Jana.Showalter@crossworld.org. See www.DavidandJana.org or www.crossworld.org for more information. See also their church sites at www.ibfsesto.org and www.cbinsieme.org.

Children: Lucy and Max

Germany
Tracy and Brandi are with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They served in Central Asia for eight years and now live in Germany. Tracy oversees all of Wycliffe’s work in Bible translation and language development in the Russian Federation, Caucasus and Central Asia — about 40 active projects with 80 colleagues and 100+ total languages “on the radar.” In addition to doing exegetical quality checks on the translation in Central Asia, Tracy provides leadership to colleagues who work in translation as well as building up local partners to provide the Scriptures to the language groups of the region — a task which will reach completion in the next few decades.

Brandi is working as a counselor and trying to meet her license requirement for the state of Texas. She provides care to missionaries and their kids struggling with the intense challenges of life on the field, helping them get back on their feet when things get to be too much, pursuing wholeness in Christ and becoming fruitful for the kingdom once again.

Ned’s main job is translating the New Testament into the Tigak language, 80% of which has been completed, checked and printed. He is currently spending quite a bit of his time checking books of the Bible for other missionaries in nearby tribes as a translation consultant.

Rod and Pam Kinch

Colombia
Rod and Pam live in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. As a part of Wycliffe Bible Translators, they have worked in Colombia since 1972. They are completing the translation of the New Testament for the Yurutí people, who live in the upper Amazon basin of southeastern Colombia. The Yurutí believers are completing “read-throughs” of each New Testament book  in key Yurutí villages before publication. This process gives the people an opportunity to give input regarding biblical terms and vocabulary while exposing them to the Scriptures. Praise the Lord for His provision of the funds need to build a chapel at the village of Consuelo. The construction is going well and the people hope to have this chapel completed in 2017. The new chapel, built in the village of Puerto Loma last year, is now being used for “read-throughs” in that village.

Jim has done a lot of Arabic translation for Muslims (Bible, evangelistic materials, etc.) and has recently published a translation of the Qur’an with 4,000 cross-references to the Bible so that Muslims will be motivated to read the Bible. He has just started on an English translation of the New Testament for Muslims (Muslim names like Ibrahim for Abraham, etc. plus wording that is clearer for Muslims). Please pray that God would use these materials, especially His Word, to draw Muslims to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
