Not long ago, a sweet friend from home group gave me a stack of spiral-bound index cards for Scripture memorization. Over some time I have been writing in some of my favorite verses, kind of like a Rolodex that I keep in my purse or on my desk. Keeping simple truths with me, because I’m human. I’m a sinner. I get distracted. I will, and do, forget and I need those words on the daily “…piercing the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

Just as a Rolodex is used to remember names ‒ I need to remember Jesus.

When my heart is heavy and grieving …

When lies and insecurities creep in …

When sin ensnares me …

When I neglect to express praise and gratitude to my Creator …

I need His word of truth. We all do.

I start humming Hillsong’s “To Be Like You”:

“All I want
All I need
More of You
Less of me
Take this life
Lord, it’s Yours
Have my heart
Have it all”

For today, I want to share some of my favorite verses with you. Just profound truths in God’s word. My lil Rolodex of Scripture. I hope it encourages you just as much!

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. -Hebrews 4:12

You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. -2 Timothy 2:1-3

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. -2 Timothy 3:16-17

Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established. -Proverbs 16:3

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. -Psalms 37:23-24

“I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak.” -Ezekiel 34:16

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. -Lamentations 3:22-23

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. -Galatians 2:20-21

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet you heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” -Matthew 6:26

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” -Isaiah 49:15

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?
-Psalm 56:8

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. -Colossians 1:13-14

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; but it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” -Isaiah 55:10-11

For the Lord is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!
-Psalm 84:11-12

He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arm; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. -Isaiah 40:1

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

-1 Corinthians 3:11

… for you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible — and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. -Ephesians 5:8-13

“For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” -Matthew 18:20

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. -James 1:2-4

… that according to the riches of his glory he grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts though faith — that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. -Ephesians 3:16-18

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:14-16
