To follow Jesus is also to represent Christ to others. For that reason we believe that if you are following Jesus then you are a leader already. If Christ Chapel is your home church in college then we, alongside a community of other leaders, want to pour into you this next year. Take 30 minutes to chat with us and let us encourage and challenge you as your church. We love you, we’re excited to see what God does in this ministry next year and we are hoping you’ll be a part of it!

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

– 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (emphasis added)

What kind of commitment are we talking about?

Really that’s up to you and for you to determine what you have time for. Our heart as a church is to walk with those who want to grow, and if you want to grow in Christ, then by definition we believe you are a leader and we want to challenge you.

At a “base-level,” leadership in the coming school year will look like being included and invited to participate in a retreat with other college leaders along with being included on some monthly gatherings where you’d be encouraged and challenged in your personal faith. For some of you, that is all you might have time for and our staff will be thankful that we get the opportunity to pour into you. We will also be consistently praying for all of our leaders through the year.

Others (who have the time) might also take advantage of some more leadership opportunities next year like serving with our outreach team to throw parties for the campus, plan camping and day-trips, host a community group, help run Sunday morning operations at the new college building, or be a part of our college connect team.

Some leaders will have time for a lot and other leaders might not have as much time, but we still want you to be known and connected to our ministry so we can be available to you as needs in your life come up.

What if I’m already serving in another ministry?

If you call Christ Chapel your home church, we as your college ministry want to know you and be available to you as the church is designed to be, but we also don’t want you to stop serving in other ministries. If you want to serve with Christ Chapel College there will be plenty of help needed and adventures to have, but if you’re serving elsewhere our heart is that you would keep serving there and we could simply be a fueling station for you as you serve.

Is there a difference between being “a leader” and “serving with” Christ chapel College?

Yes. To be a leader with Christ Chapel College simply means you are following Christ, that you call Christ Chapel your home church (while in college) and that you want us to push you to continue to grow in your walk. (You’d be included in opportunities that we’d design to encourage you, but you wouldn’t be required to attend everything.)

However, to specifically serve with Christ Chapel College is more of a commitment. You would be a CCC leader already who has agreed to let us challenge and push you and would be asked to prioritize those monthly leader gatherings. Plus, you would then identify any of the numerous ways you may want to serve. Options are things like: serving on the connect team, the operations team, leading a community group, participating in “family nights,” joining our new outreach team next year, or becoming an intern in the ministry.

What are these consultations for?

In short, the greatest 30 minutes of your life. (Just kidding with ya!) These are 30-minute chats with Ben and some of the college staff who want to:

  • Check in to see how you’re doing in this season
  • Hear how this past year has been regarding ministry and school
  • Share with you how college ministry is continuing to grow and evolve and fill you in on changes for next year
  • Ask and listen to suggestions and ways that you might want to play a part in ministry (whether its personal involvement or just ideas you might have)
  • Give you some details about upcoming retreats and events that are being planned for the fall

How is COVID-19 impacting ministry next year?

We know this season has been really rough. If we know anything, we know that God is in control, and this is His ministry. That’s why we think leadership is so important. Regardless of where we are and what’s going on in the world, we need each other, we need the Church, and most of all … we need God. This campus is going to need spiritual support in greater ways than we’ve ever imagined. Commit yourself to the need that next year will bring, and schedule your leadership consultation with us so we can pray and dream about the future together!
