In many ways our lives have been put on hold, but our spiritual lives don’t have to be. In fact, I would suggest that during this quarantine we have a unique opportunity to accelerate our spiritual growth.

Here are three simple ways to accelerate your spiritual growth in this unprecedented time.

1. Daily Bible Reading and Prayer – I know that seems obvious, but if you’re anything like me, consistency in these areas is a constant battle, and now would be a great time to strengthen those devotional muscles.

2. Family Devotions: Spending 15 to 20 minutes after dinner or before bed reading a Bible passage and discussing it with your children is enormously beneficial for the whole family – especially during this pandemic, which can be scary and confusing for kids.

3. Online Resources – There are an enormous amount of great resources available online for free to aid you in your spiritual growth.

  • The Center for Christian Growth: This is Christ Chapel’s one-stop shop for all of our online classes, daily Bible readings and other educational opportunities. Check it out at

  • Is Genesis History?” is a solid documentary on understanding the history of Earth according to Genesis, the first book of the Bible. It’s available to watch for free online at

  • Ligonier Ministries is now offering all of their courses for free at

  • Zondervan is giving a free two-week trial on all of their academic lecture series at

  • LifeWay has made available for free their online curriculums, including the Gospel Project, which is used in our own Children’s Ministry. See it all at

  • Truth 7:8 has a variety of excellent free resources for families at including family devotions and a program for memorizing Bible verses as a family.

  • Dwell is an audio Bible you can download as an app on your phone. It’s been called the “Spotify of Scripture” because you can choose to listen to an entire book of the Bible straight through or pick from one of their many listening plans that collects Scripture on specific topics like faith over fear, peaceful psalms and stopping toxic thoughts. The app offers a free one-week trial. It’s a great option for something to listen to while you go on walks, do chores at home or even as you fall asleep.
